Prepping a Computer for Placement

  1. Pull computer out of IT storage
  2. ‘Image’ computer using MDT – Name the computer (see below) apply all basic software and policies, as well as joining the computer to the network
    • Computer names follow the format PP#####, where PP is a Prefix, and ##### is the computer’s 5 digit asset tag
    • The computer’s Prefix is one of the following: DT for desktops, NB for laptops, TB for tablets
  3. When joining the network, all computers are to automatically land in the ‘Staging’ OU
  4. Find the computer in AD, and update the ‘Description’ field as follows: 
    • Room Number – User Name
  5. Under ‘Member Of’, add the computer to either ‘Intune Computers’ or ‘Intune Shared Computers’ as appropriate
  6. Sign in to the computer with a network account to have the Intune enrollment group policy apply
  7. Sign in to ScreenConnect, locate the computer under ‘Unassigned’, and add the device’s properties as appropriate
  8. Move the computer out of ‘Staging’ to the appropriate OU under ‘Lakeland Computer’
  9. Do any final prep work on the computer – transfer any user data and/or additional software the user requires, using the Company Portal where possible
  10. Assign the Primary device user using the Intune Admin Center. For shared devices, remove any current primary user
  11. Physically put the computer into place

 

Decommissioning a Computer

  1. Decommissioned computer lands with IT
  2. Computer is physically labelled with it’s former user’s name, and the date that it was decommissioned
  3. Computer is moved to the Staging OU, with the current date added to the end of its description
  4. Computer is kept in a secure, marked location for a period of 2 weeks so that data can be recovered from it if required
  5. Computer is wiped and removed from AD (Azure AD will sync from here)
  6. Computer is deleted from Intune Admin Center
  7. Computer is deleted from ScreenConnect
  8. Computer is physically cleaned and placed either back on the shelf for reassignment, or sent through the disposal process
